Redhook & Saddleback (2998)

VIEW:

On the way back from a weekend in Baxter my Friend Kaitrin and I bushwhacked Saddleback near the Katahdin Iron Works (KIW). This is not the 4000 footer. Instead its a 2998 footer on the New England 50 finest (50 most prominent) list. Tough bushwhack up the ridge made worse by the fact that I had a full upper body sunburn (painful!). We chose to beeline for another logging road instead of take the ridge down. Good choice! after a bit of threashing through some ugly spruce we were greeted with easy but steep open birch glades the rest of the way down.

BREW:

Redhook brewery! Since Kaitrin lives/works "kinda nearby" she knew how to get there (so no call to Tom!)I had their "special" which was a DIPA (it was OK) and their Oatmeal Stout (which was excellent). Had the BBQ Bacon burger which far exceeded expectations as well. Interesting place with a weird location (its in a tradeport). The place itself had sort of a clean polished semi industrial look to it.

I think I just have two more (Keene and the one near Kearsarge mtn).

PS bumped into Fellow VNB'er Jen R on Hamlin peak! :toast:

very cool. I love myself a good Oatmeal Stout. Hoping to do many of the NH brewpubs when over in the area this summer
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
